What Are Magnetic Sensors?
Magnetic sensors are devices that detect changes in magnetic fields. They are commonly used in home security systems to monitor doors and windows for unauthorized openings. There are several types of magnetic sensors, including Reed Switches, Hall Effect Sensors, and Magneto-resistive Sensors.
How Do Magnetic Sensors Work?
The most common type used in home alarm systems is the Reed Switch, which consists of two ferrous materials inside a glass capsule that close the circuit when a magnetic field is present. When the magnet and the switch are in close proximity, the circuit remains closed. However, when the magnet is moved away (e.g., when a door or window is opened), the circuit opens, triggering an alarm.
 
NC (Normally Closed):This indicates that the switch is closed by default, When a magnet approaches, the switch opens, breaking the circuit.
NO (Normally Open):This indicates that the switch is open by default. When a magnet approaches, the switch closes, completing the circuit.
